Italian wines belong to a rich and ancient tradition of wine-producing, and they are known worldwide for both their tasty flavor and for their variety. Italy is the world’s largest wine producer by volume. There are many regions of italy with a large wine production history.
Its story originates from Ancient Greece, and has been developing throughout centuries up until its current flourishing status.
Italian red wines
Italian red wine production is mainly concentrated in Piedmont, Veneto and Tuscany.
A typical Piedmontese wine, Barbera wine is one of the most famous red grape varieties in Italy. Its flavor is intense and sweet. It is made from Nebbiolo, one of the most noble and exquisite Italian varieties.
Chianti wine is produced in Tuscany, near Florence, and is an excellent pairing for steak or other grilled meat. It can refer to any type or variety of wine produced in that particular region. Its taste is dry and subtle, stemming from Sangiovese (blood of Jove) .

One of the world’s finest red wines. A dense and full-bodied grape variety whose tastes are numerous and well-mixed, from chocolate to wild strawberry, Barolo is frequently considered, if not the king, the prince of wines. It is made in the Langhe hills region of Piedmont, out of Nebbiolo grapes. They require a sandy soil and sunny hillsides.
Very rich in taste is Amarone wine, originating from the Veneto region. It’s a dry and ripe wine, sweet and delicate as well, and it needs savory food in order to be fully appreciated.
Alongside Barbera and Nebbiolo, Dolcetto wine grows in Piedmont, and its name means “little sweet one”, with reference to the ease in which it grows and is raised. It’s rich in taste and with a steady and immediately recognizable consistence.

Italian white wines
The most famous white wine types are: Pinot Grigio, Soave, Orvieto, Moscato, Frascati.
Pinot Grigio wine
A light-bodied, dry wine, Pinot Grigio wine is made from Pinot Gris grapes, in Northeastern Italy. One of the leading types of wine of that particular region, it can also be Soave. Pinot Gris is one of the best Italian wines.
Another white wine that stems from the Veneto region, very similar in taste and shades to Orvieto, Soave white wine is crisp and sparkling, and can be used with seafood dishes such as Linguine allo Scoglio.

A trademark of the Umbria region, Orvieto is a wine made from Grechetto grapes around Orvieto. Its taste is dry and a little bit bitter. It works well with fishes and all kind of seafood-based meals.
Moscato wine it’s a sweet white wine and low in alchool often used as a dessert wine because is sweet and low in alchool. The wine grapes are called Moscato bianco grapes. The most famous is Moscato d’Asti, a sparkling white wine that is produced in the province of Asti.
Frascati wine has an intense and quite complex nose, savoury with hints of melon and tropical fruits on a mellow citrus background with herbaceous undertones. Frascati is produced in the area around the town of the same name in the province of Rome.
